Our process is like a GPS—it’s sole purpose it to get you from the beginning of your project to the end without much fuss along the way.
And just like any journey, there’s three parts to our process, the beginning, middle, and end. We label these sections narrative development, execution, and finishing.
There’s an old saying in film production that goes something like, “a film is done when you finish pre-production, all that’s left to do is shoot it.”
What does this mean? Basically, on every project, everything important happens before you start production. This planning stage is where you create the narrative that will connect your message to the audience and make them care about what you have to say. There’s two elements to this stage, story crafting and style development.
We use a story framework called the “Hero’s Journey” as a foundation for every narrative we create. The journey carries our characters (whether human or just a simple shape) through all the elements of telling a human story.
The hero’s journey is primarily used as the foundation for feature films, so it may seem a little strange to apply it to commercials. However, we absolutely love how it shapes a product story into something with purpose and meaning.
Alongside crafting the story, we have a feverish hunger to find the right art style for every project. As a studio, we don’t want everything we make to look the same, because every project has it’s own unique design language that needs to be expressed through the visuals we create.
We develop sample art frames even before storyboarding to ensure that everybody involved in the project is happy with the planned art direction.
This is where, as they say, the rubber meets the road. As a studio, we pride ourselves on the diverse set talents represented in our team. Rather than surround ourselves with a homogenous group of people, we want every person on our team to bring something drastically new to the conversations. Like design, every animator approaches projects differently. We ensure that your project is brought to life by an animator with the right sensibilities for the job.
An often under-considered art, sound design is pivotal in making your project memorable. We have sound designers on staff and also partner with incredible sound design studios for bigger projects.
Giving you a file to broadcast on whichever medium you prefer is easy. Making sure you receive that file on time, know when it’s coming, and are happy with the final product are where it takes effort.
So long as the scope of the project doesn’t change, we will always deliver the final deliverable on time. This obsession with delivering on time exists as a core belief of IV.
Along with delivering on time, we prioritize clear and constant communication. There’s no reason you should ever feel like you don’t know where you project stands.
